Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Amos.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Marc. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Lakewood, Colorado (one of the few true natives that still exists) with a family of athletes – specifically a love for football. I played football at Green Mountain High School and was a 3x All-Conference Quarterback, and then went on to receive my MBA while playing college football for Adams State University. My Dad, Brother and I all played college football, and my sister was a graduate assistant to the strength and conditioning coach for the CSU football team, which is where she met her husband. Growing up, we always prioritized fitness, health and wellness.
Throughout my sports career, I was always looking for that competitive edge that set me apart. While playing football (and suffering from back pain myself) I started to realize how important the recovery process was to training and remaining competitive. While trying to mitigate pain, I began to understand how injury recovery and prevention work was the same as maximizing benefits and performance from training and workouts.
Finding love within the health and fitness industry didn’t surprise anyone, I remember in 2012 while studying for my MBA, I asked my mom for the books ‘Marma Points of Ayurveda’ and ‘Anatomy Trains’ for Christmas. This is not something a normal 22-year-old would ask for, but my Mom is the best and supported my odd request. When I look back, these odd Christmas gifts were some of the most influential because they gave me a newfound language and a way to articulate and teach something I had been doing for years. They helped me have a healing structure to create a recovery program that harnesses all the benefits of massage therapy while removing muscle imbalances to optimize postural alignment and excel movement performance.
Through all of my research, my brand Aimsworx was born. This brand uses self-care foam-rollers specifically designed to massage the spine. I am extremely proud of what I have created – it is the perfect blend between western sports medicine and eastern holistic medicine with the acupressure integration.
While football was my first passion, it led me to my lifelong passion for teaching other humans about recovery, vitality and on-going self-care. I feel very fortunate that my passion for football didn’t have to end when my college career was over. Being part of the sports community has always been something that has allowed me to thrive, so getting to continue focusing on that and helping others improve their lives has made me extremely humble and appreciative of the community I have cultivated around me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.” “Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.” Are a couple of quotes I like to live by. One of the biggest obstacles for someone promoting self-care is overcoming how commercialized the fitness and self-care markets have become. The development of the Aimworx program and philosophy came naturally to me, but articulating the idea and concept to someone that has never experienced it can be tough. Self-care is usually viewed as a “treat yo self” type of product and not something that heals from the inside out.
Marketing and selling a relatively new practice that is a hybrid of fitness and self-care, blending science and wellness is foreign to a lot of people. To get people to fully understand all of the benefits, I usually need to be in front of them or currently training them. Once they experience the benefits – it’s an easy sell. But overcoming stereotypes and a product that is not “mainstream fitness” has been a challenge.
Please tell us about your business.
Aimsworx is a fitness company that provides easy and highly effective foam-rolling self-care methods that eliminate chronic pain, prevent aging and excellent performance. Aimsworx stands for Ayurvedic Integrated Myofascial Self-care and combines the holistic healing principles of Ayurveda (5,000 year old eastern medicine system that is the mother of yoga) with a sports medicine model to rehabilitate posture, restore youthfulness and create vitality in everyday life. The program accomplishes this with foam rollers to apply pressure and massage key areas (acupressure) and specific therapeutic movement designed to neutralize muscle imbalances, improve joint alignment and increase postural health.
Working in the fitness industry after spending my life as an athlete allows me to work with patients/clients/instructors differently because I have lived a lot of the problems they are experiencing. Aimsworx isn’t just for athletes though, it’s for anyone experiencing chronic back pain, the side effects of getting older, improving strength and improving recovery times. Before making my company official, foam rolling was a big part of my personal training practice with all clients. I have seen the profound healing it can have on anyone – from beginners just starting their physical fitness journey to advanced athletes who have been hard on their bodies over time.
Foam rolling isn’t just good for physical health, but also improves mental health and helps with stress reduction. I think Deepak Chopra said it best “The way you think, the way you behave, the way you move and the way you eat, can influence your life by 30 to 50 years”. Helping others have long, pain free lives is the passion that continues to drive my business forward.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My belief and passion are the most important qualities for my success. I believe so deeply in the value and empowerment my brand has to offer, that it drives a determination in me to take steps forward even when I am exhausted and questioning everything. But believing so deeply in my product allows me to get up each day and continue to teach, help and improve the lives of others.
This genuine faith I can help people and my desire to make it my career’s purpose is the most important thing to my success.
